United States Naturalization Requirements
- In order to apply for naturalization one must be at least 18
years of age and a lawful permanent resident of the
United States.
The applicant must have resided in the
United States for five years, unless married to and living
with a United States citizen for three years.
Form N-400,
"Application for Naturalization", must be
completed, together with FD-258, "Fingerprint Chart", three
photographs and filing fee.
The application form and fee
should be sent to the immigration office having jurisdiction
over your area of residence.
After review of the
application by an INS officer, the
applicant will be notified to appear for an interview.
Generally each applicant is required to read and write
simple english, and have a basic knowledge of the U.S.
Government and history.
The applicant will be advised of
the date of the swearing in ceremony, at which time he or
she will become a citizen of the United States and
receive a certificate of naturalization.
