The central business district of Melbourne is a locality surrounded by metropolitan Melbourne, which also includes the original settlement, parkland and other built-up areas.

It is the oldest part of greater or metropolitan Melbourne, and it includes many of the city's important institutions and landmarks, such as Parliament, the Supreme Court, State Library, Museum, National Gallery, Federation Square, Flinders Street Station and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
