Parliament House, Canberra

SOURCE: Geoff Lung, courtesy of Tourism Australia, the tourism promotion authority of the government of Australia, used with permission.

Parliament House was opened in 1988 by Queen Elizabeth II. Its construction cost of over one billion dollars made it at the time the most expensive building in the Southern Hemisphere.

Previously, the Parliament of Australia met in the Provisional Parliament House, which is now known as "Old Parliament House".
