The jacanas, a group of tropical waders, are found worldwide within the tropical zone.

They have very long feet and claws, which enable them to walk on the floating vegetation of shallow lakes, their preferred habitat.

The jacanas make their nests and lay their eggs on floating vegetation amongst water weeds.
