Alpine resort, Fernie, British Columbia

Fernie is in the Elk Valley area of the East Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains.

Fernie Alpine Resort is one of the largest ski resorts in Canada.

Although the ski slopes are the main focus of ecomic activity, Fernie began as a center of the coal industry, which continues to this day.
