SOURCE: Greek National Tourism Organization, used with permission. The National Historical Museum of Greece is in the old parliament house, which housed the Greek Parliament between 1875 and 1932. The equestrian statue in front of the museum is that of Theodoros Kolokotronis, a hero of the Greek independence war. The Greek parliament moved the the former royal palace on Constitution square, where it is still housed. The museum contains the collection of the Historical and Ethnological Society of Greece (IEEE), founded in 1882, the oldest collection of its kind in Greece. The collection contains historical items concerning the period from the fall of Constantinople to the Second World War, focusing especially in the period of the Greek Revolution and the subsequent establishment of the modern Greek state
