The numismatic museum of Athens displays coins from Ancient Greece, and Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, midieval and modern coins, as well as a narrative of the history of coinage.

It is house in Iliou Melathron (Troy Mansion), a 19th century neoclassical building designed by the notable German architect Ernst Ziller.

It was originally the residence of Heinrich Schlieman, the german businessman and archeologist, who excavated Troy and Mycenaean sites. Hense the name of his mansion.
