Shirakawa-go historic village, Gifu prefecture Shirakawa-go is a small, traditional Japanese village showcasing a style of buildings called gassho-zukuri. Gassho-zukuri (literally "clasped-hands" style) is also preserved in Shirakawa in Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture. The two villages together have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
