Canoeing on a lake, Ostfold, East Norway Ostfold, Norways second smallest county, is located southeast of Oslo, with the Oslo Fjord to the west and Sweden to the east. The Glomma river, Norways longest, flows through the county and out into the Oslo Fjord in Fredrikstad. The Ostfold countryside is very diverse, with westwards facing skerries, round, bare rocks in the sea, many sandy beaches for sunbathing and swimming in the summer; and many lakes and waterways for fishing and canoeing. All local forests have well-maintained ski tracks in the winter and hiking footpaths in the summer. PHOTO SOURCE: Terje Rakke, Nordic Life, courtesy of the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry .
