Sogndal is the educational center of Sogn og Fjordane County, with more than 2,000 students in the municipality from all over Norway.

Sogn og Fjordane University College is one of the main employers in Sogndal.

The Western Norway Research Institute is located within the campus, but it is an independent institution with special expertise in information communication, technology systems, environmental research, and organizational research.
