View over Holmenkollen ski high jump stadium, Oslo
Holmenkollen, a residential neighborhood in the Vestre Aker borough of Oslo, has been a ski recreation area since the late 19th century, with its famous, eponymous, ski jump arena hosting competitions since 1892.
The capacity of the stands have been increased to over 50,000 people and the jump was expanded 18 times, last time in 1982 to today's tower, which extends 60 meters above groundl.
Every year, more than a million tourists visit the ski arena. The tower offers a panoramic view of Oslo and the Oslofjord. It is currently undergoing construction, in preparation for hosting the World Ski Championships in skiing in 2011.
