Plattenberg Bay, Western Cape province
Plettenberg Bay, a popular tourist destination on South Africa's Garden Route, 210 kilometers from Port Elizabeth, offers the visitor miles of sweeping, unspoiled golden beaches, a dramatic rocky peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea.
It hosts one of the largest seagull breeding colonies along the South African coast at the mouth of the Keurboom's River. Whales are a common sight in the bay during their breeding season, while dolphins are frequently seen in the surf.
Nestled in the great forests lying at the feet of the fabled Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains is the quaint hamlet of Storms River offering teeming birdlife, vast expanses of Cape flora, delicate eco-systems in wetlands and lagoons, gigantic trees and adrenaline pumping activities such as the worlds highest bungee jump and tree canopy tours.
