Jiucyudong The scenic Tunnel of Nine Turns, Taroko gorge, Taiwan photo
Jiucyudong, the scenic Tunnel of Nine Turns, Taroko gorge

Jiucyudong is the most magnificent part of Taroko Gorge, where the sheer cliffs face each other. During the exploration stage, it is an especially difficult and dangerous part to explore.

The Jiucyudong tunnel was constructed 1996, so that visitors can view the rock folds, joints and faults of the marble cliffs. The two cliffs are so close to each other, a mere 10 meters, that they appear from a distance as if they are joining each other. This section is known as "Nine Turns of the Coiled Dragon".

The trail along the Taroko Gorge is a must-see for those who wish to enjoy the spectacular scenery that has been formed by tens of thousands of years of river erosion.
