Cityscape, Kaohsiung, Taiwan photo
Cityscape, Kaohsiung

Situated in the south of Taiwan, Kaohsiung is the most densely populated, and the second largest city in Taiwan, with a population of 1.5 million.

A major seaport, and one of the busiest in the world, Kaohsiung handles most of Taiwan's marine imports and exports, and it is a center for manufacturing, refining, shipbuilding, fishing and other industries.

Because of its strategic location, the Dutch occupied it during the 17th century, and then the Japanese during the Japanese Colonisation Era.
