MONUSCO, the United Nations peacekeeping and stabilization force in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has operated in the central and eastern parts of the country since 1999; as of October 2019, MONUSCO comprised around 20,000 personnel, including more than 15,000 military troops; in December 2019, the UN extended MONUSCO's s mandate until 20 December 2020 (2019)
